Referendum art exhibition

Brian Martin’s exhibition, Human Status, on display at the Wyndham Art Gallery, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Referendum when Aboriginal Australians were finally recognised in the census and Australians voted to change the Constitution which prevented the Federal Government from making discriminatory laws against Aboriginals.

The exhibition includes 11 life-size portraits of people from Broken Hill born before the referendum, and painted by Brian Martin, who is a descendent of the Muruwari, Bundjalung and Kamilaroi peoples.

Opening night of the exhibition is Thursday 22 June at 6.30pm.
