Watford in Werribee

Watford in Werribee, an installation by Lyndal Jones, will showcase The Avoca Project – Art, Place, Climate Change - an international art project in regional Victoria centred around Watford House, a once derelict house with an amazing history, sited on a flood plain in Avoca, central Victoria.

The exhibit is an installation by Lyndal Jones, who has been involving national and international artists and residents in land works, exhibitions, performances, concerts and symposia, projects for the last 10 years. that involve always responding in some way to Watford House and new ecological possibilities.

Watford in Werribee will continue this ecological approach by creating an ‘alternative’ house from the residue of the repairs carried out on the house over the past 12 years of this project. This will provide a means for the house itself to continue to embody issues of migration, change, hospitality in the face of the increasingly hostile climate it inhabits.

Opening Night is Wednesday 30 August at the Wyndham Art Gallery (6.30pm to 8.30pm).

The Wyndham Art Gallery aims to provide a high-quality art experience in the suburbs and local artists are free to contact the Arts Curator for opportunities to exhibit. If you’re moving to Grace and you’re an aspiring artist, this is an excellent opportunity for you to reach out to the arts community and begin to build a name for yourself in an established local arts scene.
