Wyndham’s population outgrows Geelong

For the first time ever, Wyndham City’s population has outgrown Geelong, the second largest city in Victoria.

According to .id Consulting, who provides population data nationally, Wyndham’s current population stands at 250,186 people compared to Greater Geelong’s 247,068.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Peter Maynard noted that the city’s population grew by 37% from 2011 to 2016, more than three times that of Geelong over the same period. And now he is calling upon State and Federal Governments to drive investment in the region.

Cr Maynard added that this spike in growth is forecast to increase over the coming years and will reach more than 435,000 people by 2036. Consequently, the Wyndham City Council has submitted a formal submission to both State and Federal Governments for greater funding of community projects including:

  • 25 Kindergartens
  • 20 Primary schools
  • 6 Secondary schools
  • An integrated service hub
  • Western Interstate Freight Terminal
